How iCap Works

The pieces of music are taught one phrase at a time, just like a lesson with a private teacher. If the student makes a mistake on any phrase, right hand or left, the software program will catch it, break down the section for the student, and have him or her play/listen to it again and again until he or she gets it right. Then they advance to the next phrase. If the student feels like he/she needs more practice on a certain phrase, then they can go back and try it again.
Once the student plays all the phrases in the song correctly, then he/she plays the whole piece from beginning to end.
With clear instruction, the detail-oriented software moves along step-by-step at the students' pace and is easy to understand.

As an incentive, there is a "Performance Hall" to which the student can go to play the piece in a virtual recital. The student can choose to play with the right hand, left hand, or both. An orchestra accompanies the piano, so the student learns the importance of playing the piano, which is a solo instrument, in an ensemble.
There is a game room where students can play mini-arcade games, such as Bopp-A-Chord and a Shooting Gallery, which focus on playing given chords and rhythms.
The program also teaches the history and theory of the piece the students are playing, not just how to play the piece.
 | The iCap program reinforces and enhances everything the private instructor teaches. The importance of using a metronome is stressed, because it is built in and can't be turned off. Many students don't like to use a metronome, but it is a necessary tool for the development of proper playing skills. The metronome tempo can be adjusted, just like in real life. This helps the student develop a strong sense of rhythm. |
The iCap program does not replace the private instructor, because it is necessary for evaluation and judgment from a living, breathing organism that has the proper training. Computers don't do everything.

It's like having a private teacher for a group of students at once, thereby reducing the cost to the client. Some group lessons without iCap offer only mere minutes of attention to each student over the course of the hour. With iCap, no time is wasted; each student is actively learning and practicing during the entire hour.
